By Matthew McCully – André Mercier has been helping out at the community Garden on Thibault Street in Sherbrooke for the past 15 years. He is a very popular guy at the bocce courts come harvest time, he said. “I give it away,” Mercier said, referring to anything he doesn’t eat that is grown in his 15 by 30-foot plot. According to Mercier, the season was touch and go for quite a while. Some gardeners gave up in June because of the cold weather. The recent heavy rain was also on the verge of washing out food beds. Luckily, the recent warm sunny weather has allowed plants to perk up and start to take shape.
“It has grown more in the last week than it has in the last three put together,” Mercier said, referring to his crop of vegetables. See full story in the Tuesday, July 9 edition of the The Record.
