The Cookshire fairgrounds are abuzz with little ones this week as the local Vacation Bible Camp (VBC) holds this year’s batch of religious summer activities.
VBCs have a long history stretching back over a century and feature fun activities for kids during the weeklong run; usually involving Christian teachings blended into fun and games.
Founder of the Cookshire VBC, Roberta Sylvester, started the camp over 20 years ago and continues to help out with the planning and activities.
“I started it and was the director for 19 years and then Covid hit so I missed my 20th year; now I’m just too old to start again. One of the other leaders has taken it over and is doing a fantastic job,” Sylvester said.
