Coronavirus numbers continue to climb

Thursday’s province-wide daily update on coronavirus numbers brought the news of 187 new cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic to 62,933. Although there were no new deaths in the previous 24 hours, three deaths which occurred before August 27 were added to the official count, for a total of 5,767. The number of hospitalizations decreased by nine compared to the previous day, for a cumulative total of 100. Among these, the number of patients in intensive care remained stable, for a total of 20. A total of 15,277 tests were conducted on September 1.
In the Eastern Townships, another fourteen cases were reported, bringing the total to 1,297. Three of those are hospitalized, with one being in intensive care. There have been no new deaths in the region as a result of the virus since June 23.
In terms of areas under specific observation in the Townships, Santé Estrie is reporting one new case at the Lambton long term care home, bringing the total there to 17 (seven employees and ten residents).
The public health department also recorded 12 new cases in the Jardins-Fleuris sector of Sherbrooke, in Fleurimont, and three new cases in the Ascot District. The total number of active cases in Ascot has now climbed to 66.
The number of people considered recovered across the province is 55,615, with 1,118 of those being in the Estrie region.
