Coroner reveals recommendations following inquest into Riley Fairholm’s death

A coroner’s inquest looking into the death of Riley Fairholm, a 17-year-old Lac-Brome resident who was shot and killed during a police intervention on July 25, 2018, took place in June, and on Wednesday the report and recommendations were revealed to the public.
The inquest, presided by Coroner Gehane Kamel, went on for nearly two weeks, as the six police officers involved in the intervention, including the officer who shot Fairholm, the teenager’s mother, Tracy Wing, and a psychologist were questioned about the shooting.
During the inquest it was discovered that Fairholm was actually the anonymous person who tipped off the police, telling them someone was walking down the street, screaming and waving a gun. The police officers found Fairholm at an abandoned restaurant parking lot.
