Council supports private bill in National Assembly that calls for Bromont police to cover TBL

By Steve Blake – The Town of Brome Lake Council voted unanimously at a special meeting Thursday night, Jan. 24, to support a Private Bill in the Quebec National Assembly that will call for the provincial government to allow the Bromont Police Service to cover TBL. Orford MNA Gilles Belanger will introduce the bill in the spring session. The bill had to be ready by February 4, TBL Communications Director Ghyslain Forcier said. The Surete du Quebec has been covering TBL since 2002. TBL and Bromont have been discussing the issue for the past two years. Provincial law does not allow communities of less than 50,000 people to unilaterally make changes in their police coverage. See full story in the January 29 edition of the Brome County News.
