COVID-19 support: Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payment increase

Record Staff

Families that are entitled to receive the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) for April 2020 and still have an eligible child in their care in May 2020 will get up to $300 extra per child as part of their regular May 2020 payment.
This is a one-time increase to the May CCB payment for the 2019-20 benefit year (July 2019 to June 2020).
Maximum benefits will be increased by $300 per child to a maximum of $550. This is a one-time payment in addition to the amount usually received. People who are already receiving the Canada Child Tax Benefit do not have to reapply.
To receive the benefit, parents must have at least one dependent child and have filed their 2018 income tax return.
The amount is calculated based on information from the 2018 tax return and the spouse’s tax return, if applicable. For newcomers to Canada between January 1, 2019 and April 30, 2020, any applicable income will be used in the calculation.
The amount will be different for each family based on net family income, to a maximum of $300 per child. Parents of a child in shared custody will each receive one-half of the additional amount.
