Curfew lifts May 28: Outdoor gatherings permitted

After Thursday night, Quebecers will no longer need to rush to get home by 9:30 p.m. The first step in the Quebec government’s deconfinement plan begins Friday, with the curfew lifted, and outdoor gatherings permitted with up to eight people, or groups from a maximum of two different residences. Restaurants can open patios, and bars will follow in the coming weeks, along with the loosening of other restrictions related to sports and other leisure activities.
Quebec reported 436 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of people infected since the beginning of the pandemic to 368,899. There are currently 4,977 active cases in the province. Ten new deaths were reported in the last day, for a total of 11,115.
Hospitalizations decreased by five for a total of 394, and there are 96 patients in intensive care, down five from the day before.
In the Estrie region 40 new cases were reported, bringing the number of active cases to 402.
No new deaths were reported locally.
To date, 57 per cent of the population eligible for COVID-19 vaccination in Estrie has received at least one dose.
