Daffodil volunteers hit the streets

This year the Canadian Cancer Society’s annual daffodil days will line up with the first days of spring. Those looking to bring a little sunshine into their homes while also supporting the fight against cancers of all kinds should be on the lookout in stores on March 21 and 22 for the traditional kiosks where volunteers will be out collecting donations in exchange for flowers. In some parts of the Eastern Townships, however, the fundraising mission gets started a little bit earlier. In the communities of Ayer’s Cliff, Birchton, Bulwer, Bury, Cookshire, Earlstown, Hatley, Huntingville, Lennoxville, Milby, North Hatley, and Sawyerville canvassers are already at work collecting orders of flowers. “Our deadline is the 13th of March,” said Maureen Quigg, a perennial member of the organizing committee for the local campaign.
