Dawson petition gains steam ahead of National Assembly presentation

A petition to revive the recently cancelled Dawson College expansion project has been circulating on social media, gaining over 17,000 signatures since its inception in late February.

According to Dawson’s Communications Advisor Christina Parsons, Quebecers have until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, to sign the petition. On Thursday, Liberal MNA Jennifer Maccarone intends to present the document to her colleagues at the National Assembly.

“The project is not officially cancelled until the budget comes down March 22, so we’re hoping that they’ll listen to the thousands of people who signed the petition and hopefully we’ll be able to garner more people to sign the petition before it closes,” said Parsons in a phone interview.

Dawson’s student union is also sending a small delegation to Quebec City on Thursday. Parsons told The Record that the presentation will be a show of strength and support for Dawson College, as well as the entire English-speaking community in the province.
