Day camp reverses ­decision, child with autism will return to camp

Following a meeting on Thursday afternoon with Bishop’s day camp organizers, Mandy Doucet and Lambert Chavannes’ daughter Selena was invited to return to camp for the remainder of the summer.
Selena, who has autism, was asked to leave after an evaluation done during her second week at camp suggested she was having social integration issues.
“This meeting could have happened last week,” Doucet said, explaining that being told Selena couldn’t continue attending camp was hard on the family. “It was sad for us,” she said, to have to explain to her other daughters what had happened. Interrupting Selena’s routine and scrambling to make alternative arrangements compounded the stress level.
