Driver involved in hit and run of elementary school teacher released from custody

A 54-year-old man who was arrested Wednesday morning after he struck a teacher participating in a province-wide strike and standing on the picket line outside of the École secondaire du Triolet has been released pending a court date.
According to Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS) Public Relations Officer Martin Carrier, the man has no prior criminal history. He was released Wednesday afternoon, Carrier continued, and his file has been sent to the Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales (DPCP).
The SPS officer said there is an official complaint filed against the 54-year-old, however he could not provide any insight as to when the man will appear in court. The incident occurred during a province-wide teachers’ strike.
