Driver takes out utility pole at Waterville roundabout

By Gordon Lambie

The roundabout at the intersection of highways 143 and 147 was the scene of some excitement on Monday night after a driver went off the road and damaged a utility pole just after 7 p.m. Although the SUV hit the support wire rather than the pole itself, the impact was enough to cause a break about halfway up the length. According to Sûreté du Québec communications agent Aurelie Guindon, the driver of the vehicle briefly left the scene of the accident on foot but returned while the SQ were still on site. Guindon was not able to provide details about the duration or reason for this departure, but clarified that the driver was not intoxicated. No one was injured as a result of the crash.
