DUMP dumps appeal regarding expansion of Coventry landfill

Don’t Undermine Memphremagog’s Purity (DUMP), an Orleans County volunteer environmental group, has reached an agreement with the New England Waste Services of Vermont Inc. (NEWSVT) and agreed to withdraw an appeal to Vermont Superior Court challenging the solid waste permit for the 51-acre expansion of the landfill in Coventry, VT.
The two parties agreed on a number of conditions related to the management of landfill leachate, most importantly that NEWSVT will not dispose of its leachate in the Lake Memphremagog watershed or at the Newport, Vermont sewage treatment facility prior to January 1, 2024 unless State or Federal regulations require NEWSVT to amend its current leachate treatment practices prior to that date.
