Late last week the Brome Missisquoi, Coaticook, Haute-Yamaska, Haut-Saint-Francois, Memphremagog and des Sources MRCs all signed an agreement to jointly acquire, implement, and manage an “intelligent transport” system which will help link the 80 municipalities of their collected regions. Each of the participating regional governments will contribute $33,333 to the initiative to add $200,000 to $600,000 in financial assistance for the project from the provincial Ministry of Transport. Hailed as unique in Quebec, the new system will facilitate route optimization, allow for the use of numerous different forms of payment including an electronic ticket system, create an online reservation management option, and introduce real-time digital vehicle tracking and other tools that will help bring the people of the region together more easily.
