By Matthew McCully – “It’s a wonderful thing to get people playing music. It’s a wonderful way to bring people together,” commented Pauline Farrugia, Clarinetist and co-founder of the Estria Woodwind Quintet. Now in its 20th and final season, The Townships ensemble will perform its last concert on April 6 at 3 p.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church in North Hatley.
Farrugia sat down with The Record to talk about how the Estria Quintet evolved over the last 20 years, from the homemade program for its first concert in 1998, to three CD recordings of well-known woodwind works and commissions from local contemporary composers, to the ensemble’s plans for the final show. “We said let’s bring the quintet back,” Farrugia said.
