The loosened restrictions announced last week by Quebec Premier Francois Legault came into effect Monday, making Estrie an orange zone, allowing gyms and restaurants to reopen and extending the curfew from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
More details are expected this week regarding the restarting of sports activities.
Quebec reported 579 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, bringing the total number of people infected to 293,210. According to public health 275,796 people have recovered.
There were nine new deaths reported in the last day, for a total of 10,481 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic. Hospitalizations decreased by two for a total of 590, while patients in intensive care increased by one to 108.
Eight new cases were reported in Estrie, bringing the local total to 11,690. Two deaths were reported, one at ExelSoins in Lac Brome and one at Manoir Jeffrey in Val-des-Sources.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 variants in the province increased to 255, with an additional 1,732 presumptive cases. There are currently four cases confirmed in Estrie.
