Exotic birds seized during a search

Record Staff

The Eastern Townships SPA, working in collaboration with the Sherbrooke police seized 22 exotic birds from a home at 1280 Larocque street in Sher-brooke on Monday morning. The search was carried out following an investigation that showed the animals were being neglected and kept in unclean conditions.

During the search, agents of the Eastern Townships SPA, accompanied by a veterinary team with an expertise in exotic birds, observed unsanitary and crowded spaces as well as very poor living conditions for the birds. The lack of natural light and ventilation, the size of the cages, their layout, their dilapi-dated and dirty state, and the absence of suitable food and clean water di-rectly endangered the physical and psychological health of the birds, thus justifying immediate seizure. The birds were taken into custody in order that they might be examined and provided care as soon as possible.
