Eyes on the pies

The annual Pie Bonspiel is underway at the Lennoxville Curling Club.

The week-long tournament, which began March 5 will continue until Saturday, March 11. Five trophies will be awarded at the end of the bonspiel as teams from the ‘regular section’ will compete for the Nichol Family Trophy, the Mooney Family Trophy and the John Smith Trophy while teams from the ‘Senior section’ will compete for the Global Excel trophy and the Clarke et Fils Trophy.

According to club member Jim Mastine, this year there are two sections in one collective tournament in order to allow all the teams to attend the end of tournament banquet celebrations in the same week.

Mastine said the senior section is very popular as teams from Bedford, Cowansville, Magog, Danville, Victoriaville and Sherbrooke are competing. The section, which has curlers who are all at least 50 years old, has a total of 28 teams – a record high.
