This Valentine’s Day will mark a special moment for Farnham Elementary School, as students and staff are concluding a two-month long fundraiser, with the purpose of sponsoring one year of education for 10 Kenyan children, on the day of love next week.

According to Farnham Elementary Principal Cathy Canzani, on Monday, students from Farnham’s grade 1 class will give out heart-shaped chocolate lollipops that they’ve been working on for the last week. This class alone has raised $765, she told The Record.

“The nice thing about this is they’ll be given out on the 14th, which is Valentine’s Day, but it’s also the day that we chose as our grand finale day because Valentine’s is a day of love and this is a real love project, so we thought that that was really fitting,” said Canzani.

The fundraiser kicked off in mid-December, and despite another provincial lockdown throwing a wrench in their plans, students and teachers managed to pull together enough donations.

The money raised in the past two months will be going to Sokora Primary School in Kenya.
