Federal and Provincial ­Governments seek tax ­volunteers

Tax time is coming, and the Canada Revenue Agency and Revenue Quebec are on the hunt for people who love filing so much that they would volunteer their time to file the taxes of others through the Income Tax Assistance – Volunteer Program, which helps individuals with low-incomes file their tax returns so they can receive the benefits and tax credits to which they are entitled. Program volunteers receive online training on completing simple tax returns, equipping them to help people who are unable to complete their returns themselves, but cannot afford the services of a professional. “We aim to get as many as possible,” said CRA spokesperson Frédérick Fink, “since the more volunteers we have, the more people we can help.” See full story in the Wednesday, Jan. 30 edition of The Record.
