Federal budget invests $600 million to combat gender-based violence

The new National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence is set to receive a major boost, as the 2021 federal budget proposes to invest $601.3 million to advance the initiative.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau, Sherbrooke MP Elisabeth Brière and Brome-Missisquoi MP Lyne Bessette met with a dozen regional domestic and sexual violence organizations on Tuesday to better understand their concerns.
They also wanted to explain and break down the proposed budget investment for them. The federal government plans to use $200 million over two years to improve shelter capacity, relief centres and other support organizations for abused women.
