Although the word retreat carries with it the idea of rest or time away from work, Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and Member of Parliament for Compton-Stanstead told The Record on Monday morning that the Federal cabinet retreat coming up on Wednesday will be a busy time for politicians in the Townships.
The 35 members of Justin Trudeau’s cabinet will be meeting in Sherbrooke from Wednesday night to Friday afternoon, but according to Bibeau, 12 different members of the cabinet are showing up early, either on Tuesday or Wednesday morning, in order to get to know the area and its issues better. “This is really great,” Bibeau said, highlighting the fact that the extra time provides a rare opportunity for local groups and organizations to get some one-on-one time with the Federal Government.
