Federal government commits to  preserving armouries

Following a demonstration earlier this week by a group of retired representatives of the local reserve regiments concerned about the future of the local armoury buildings, Sherbrooke MNA Elizabeth Brière told the Record that although she is still waiting on the exact details of the plan from the Department of National Defence (DND), the federal government fully intends to renovate and preserve the two buildings.
“They are very accessible, they are downtown, they are seen on a daily basis by most of the citizens of Sherbrooke,” Brière said, stressing that she understands the heritage value of the facilities and the concerns that have been expressed in recent weeks by a range of local groups including the City of Sherbrooke and the Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network.
