Estrie public health authorities have revealed that the deadly opioid fentanyl is starting to make an appearance in the region and the agency is concerned about the future. Cases of fentanyl poisoning requiring hospitalization have been spreading recently and one individual has died after ingesting carfentalyn, an associated narcotic. Fentanyl is about 100 times stronger than morphine. Carfentanyl, in turn, is considered 10,000 times more powerful than morphine. See full story in the Friday, Jan. 26th edition of The Record.
