The Festival des Rhythmes D’Afrique de Sherbrooke is starting up this weekend and continuing through August 3, bringing together performances of dance, music, and storytelling from both traditional and contemporary African backgrounds and communities to performance spaces all across the city.
“This year we are giving a lot of exposure to many African musicians who are on tour,” shared festival organizer Takhiou Gueye, who explained that the festival has grown significantly over its sixteen years to become a major event in the city. Following a common model among Sherbrooke’s summer festivals, the Festival des Rhythmes D’Afrique offers a combination of free and ticketed events at a number of venues across the city.
