Five more road work sites in Sherbrooke this week

By Gordon Lambie

As the summer construction season rolls along, there are currently 39 road work sites active across the city of Sherbrooke, with five more to be added this week.
According to Urban Infrastructure Director Caroline Gravel, the five new projects include the construction of Wright-Gibson and Yvon-Bibeau streets in Rock Forest, the construction of a sidewalk and urbanization work on Henri-Labonne street between Bourque Boulevard and Poisson street, the addition of a sidewalk and resurfacing work on Gibraltar Street between Bourque Boulevard and de Gaspé, and the replacement of culverts on Clément street.
The city has also made arrangement with a private contractor to help ensure that the 96 projects planned for this year are completed as scheduled. That additional work is expected to start within the next week or two, although Gravel could not confirm exactly when.
Bell Canada will also be starting work expected to last about three weeks on King Street West near the Promenades King shopping mall. This project, which involves excavation, will see King street reduced to a single lane in each direction and will close the south side sidewalk.
Work is also set to get started on the next phase of the Carré Belvedere project near the intersection of College and Belvedere Street South. Although this work mainly involves the creation of new roads, it will eventually result in the installation of a new traffic light on the upper end of Belvedere. According to Gravel, this installation is likely to take place this coming fall.
