Fleurimont hospital in “critical situation”

Speaking to the press on Friday, Quebec’s Health Minister, Christian Dubé, said that the increase in cases over the last three weeks has placed ten hospitals in the province, including Sherbrooke’s Fleurimont hospital, in a “critical situation.”
“The constant increase in new cases obviously has consequences for the increase in hospitalizations in several regions of Quebec, and this is of great concern to us,” Dubé said. “Our maneuvering space is shrinking, and the pressure on our network is increasing.”
As a result of the situation, the health minister asked people to avoid non-urgent visits to the emergency room or clinic.
The most recent data on the evolution of COVID-19 in Québec on Sunday showed 2,146 new cases, bringing the total number of people infected to 176,985, of which 151,044 have now recovered. The data also reported 21 new deaths, for a total of 7,736. The number of hospitalizations increased by 5 compared to the previous day, for a cumulative total of 1,010. Among these, the number of people in intensive care increased by 4, for a total of 146.
In the Estrie Region there were 115 new cases recorded Sunday following 129 on Saturday and 78 on Friday, bringing the regional total to 6,741. Of that total, 5,531 are considered to have recovered, and 1,087 are considered to be currently active. The cumulative number of deaths was 123 on Sunday, having climbed by 24 over the last week. The total number of hospitalizations was 47, two of whom were in intensive care.
