On May 4 at 1:30pm, the borough of Fleurimont will be hosting a community walk-and-talk event following in the Toronto tradition known as “Jane’s walks.” Named for journalist, activist and urban-design pioneer Jane Jacobs, the walks invite the public to join locals who are passionate about their neighbourhoods on a stroll that brings together history and community engagement. “The idea is to really bring history, urban design, and the people of the area into connection with each other,” explained Vincent Boutin, Fleurimont’s Borough President, describing the upcoming event as the evolution of the council’s 2016 active pathway project. That intiative, he continued, saw the borough install signs in each of its parks indicating the walking and cycling time to other nearby parks in the name of encouraging the populace to get active and explore.
