After getting overlooked at last year’s draft, Ivan Zhigalov has finally realized his childhood dream, when the Colorado Avalanche selected him with the final pick of the 2022 National Hockey League (NHL) Draft.
“It was pretty nice. I liked the atmosphere. I liked the vibe. It was kind of a little bit long, but it was a happy ending for me. I got to go on stage and I’m really just excited about it. It’s great to get this opportunity, it’s just like your childhood dream,” Zhigalov said in a phone interview.
The 19-year-old from Minsk, Belarus played 42 regular season games for the Sherbrooke Phoenix last season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He posted a 2.84 goals against average (GAA), an .892 save percentage, 26 wins, and 12 losses.
