Sherbrooke Liberal MNA Luc Fortin appeared with part of his young family in tow on Wedensday morning to announce that, if re-elected, he will make the construction of a new elementary school in the Ascot district a priority. Having already committed to helping to fund the expansion of the Jean XXIII elementary school on Thibeault street during his current mandate, Fortin said that he would take the commitment further at the request of the Sherbrooke Area School board (CSRS), to convert the funding already approved for an expansion into the construction of the new facility.
“A new elementary school in the Ascot District is a necessity,” Fortin said, noting that the district has grown significantly in recent years with more development on the way. “We want young families to make their way to Sherbrooke, and to do that we need to be able to offer them services.”
