By Matthew McCully – Friday was a challenging day for the Memphremagog East Fire services, according to Battalion Chief Chris Goodsell, as firefighters answered calls for two major house fires and two other interventions. “Some guys worked upwards of 15-16 hours straight,” Goodsell said, pointing out that the temperature was around minus 18 for most of the day. The first call came in at around 1:15 p.m. regarding what was thought to be a chimney fire on Chemin du Lac in Hatley. “The first guys to arrive realized it was more than a chimney fire,” commented Goodsell, explaining it had spread to the structure of the building. Firefighters from the Ayer’s Cliff, North Hatley and Stanstead stations of the régie participated in the intervention. Mutual aid from the Waterville Fire Department was also called to assist, Goodsell said. See full story in the Tuesday, Feb. 5 edition of The Record.
