The Juripop legal clinic will be offering free services to all Quebec victims of sexual harassment or sexual violence in the workplace thanks to a $2 M investment from Justice Canada.
“Juripop is a non-profit organization that aims to improve Quebecers’ access to legal services,” said Sophie Gagnon, lawyer and executive director of Juripop. “It was founded in 2009, nearly 10 years ago already, and we offer a multitude of services. We want to give everyone the opportunity to have their rights represented, regardless of their financial situation.” This new project was inspired by L’Aparté, an initiative for employees in the cultural sector launched in 2018. With this new funding, Juripop will now offer free services including a lending ear, legal advice, and assistance to all people who have suffered from workplace harassment, regardless of sector, age or job. “We began L’Aparté almost a year ago to the day. It was a mandate that was given to us by several dozen professional associations in the cultural industry. The cultural industry encapsulates many kinds of employees, from actors, to singers, from image and sound technicians to stage directors, and basically anyone working on production sets, even coming down to someone in the food services,” she explained.
