It’s an old standby of parenting to tell children not to play with their food, but Franzi Kaiser and Julie Corriveau Wilson have both found that there can be some benefits to holding back on that particular rule.

The two women have both recently published books inspired by their children’s creative ideas when it comes to bread products.

“I never actually foresaw writing a book,” said Kaiser, who grew up in the Townships and is now working as a teacher in Montreal.

The idea for her book, “I am Not a Pita,” got started last spring as she doodled and wrote down what her son Micah was saying as he ate a piece of pita bread.
