Fun at the fair

Cookshire Fair, the third of the regional fairs that happen throughout August and September in the Townships, took place over the weekend. Although participants arrive and festivities begin as early as Thursday night, Friday is usually considered 4-H day. The young 4-H members tested their keen eyes in a judging competition on Thursday evening. Each member was given the opportunity to judge several classes, as well as a mystery class. On Friday, the morning and afternoon was spent showing animals, followed by overall showmanship around 2:30 p.m. “If you want to see all the action, show up at 5 a.m.” one veteran fair participant said, as this reporter walked through the barns. Most of the kids showing were up at the crack of dawn clipping, cleaning, and primping their animals.
Throughout the weekend, 4-H maintained a presence at the fair with two fundraisers. See full story in the Monday, Aug. 19 edition of The Record.
