Galt Street work causes gas leak

A gas leak shut down traffic at the corner of Belvédère Street South and Galt Street West in Sherbrooke for most of the morning on Monday.

According to Martin Carrier of the Sherbrooke Police, the leak was detected around 7:15 in the morning and was caused by the ongoing excavation work in the area.

A representative of the city shared that one apartment block of four to six units near the corner was evacuated as a result of the leak, but no other homes or businesses had to be cleared. The nearby pharmacy and municipal offices were kept open but under surveillance.
