Following the 2017 municipal election, a newly elected Mayor Bertrand Ménard said that he wanted to see the people of Richmond given more opportunity to be involved in their community’s decisions, and more work done with the neighbouring communities. A little over a year later, he told The Record he feels both of these matters are progressing well. “People are pleased with what we are doing and how we are doing it,” Ménard said, seated in his seat in the town council chambers on Tuesday afternoon. “We have many views but I think we are all going in the same direction.” The Richmond mayor said that where his community has often had a certain air of superiority over its neighbours in the past, he recognizes the interconnectedness of rural communities and wants to see the different municipalities working together more and more often to accomplish common goals.
