Government reminds motorists to stay alert during cold snap

With road conditions worsening in Quebec due to a cold snap taking hold of the province, the government has issued a friendly reminder to motorists to adapt their driving to the freezing weather.

According to a press release issued on Monday by the Transport Ministry, de-icing agents normally used in Quebec will lose their effectiveness over the coming days. The ministry also noted that during an intense cold period, tire traction is reduced, which means motorists need to take that into account.

The ministry is urging motorists to stay informed of road conditions by visiting the various Quebec 511 platforms, by web, mobile app, or telephone. The province also recommends motorists significantly increase the distance between vehicles to avoid accidents.
