When François Legault announced on Tuesday that despite maintaining the curfew, certain businesses would be allowed to reopen as of Feb. 8, hairdressers and clients alike rejoiced. However, for some business owners in the industry, the news felt like too little, too late.
Hair salons and barbershops in the Estrie region have been closed since Christmas day. Initially “non-essential” businesses were to remain closed until Jan. 11 as part of an extended holiday break lockdown to slow the spread of COVID-19. Later, simultaneous with the implementation of the provincial curfew, the shutdowns were extended until Feb. 8.
