A 21 year old man from Cookshire and a 55 year-old man from Sherbrooke were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 108 between Cookshire and Birchton early Monday morning. According to Sergeant Aurelie Guindon of the Sûreté du Québec, the driver in the westbound vehicle (heading toward Sherbrooke) left his lane for unknown reasons and collided with the vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. There were no passengers in either vehicle. The men were transported from the scene to the hospital where they were later declared dead. The road was closed in both directions between 6:30 a.m. and just before 11 a.m. to leave room for the SQ to investigate the cause of the crash. Although there was no definitive answer regarding the cause as of this writing, Guindon said that there was no indication that road conditions were to blame for the accident, as the surface was not snow-covered or icy.
