Healthcare workers call out forced overtime at the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS

Healthcare professionals recently voiced concerns about the excessive use of forced overtime in several establishements of the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS.
Representatives of the Quebec Interprofessional Health Federation (FIQ) and of the Syndicat des professionnelles en soins des Cantons-de-l’Est (FIQ-SPSCE) held a press conference to condemn forced overtime, particularly in the maternity and neonatology unit. They believe challenging work conditions have a negative impact on the health professionals’ work, personal, and family life. When healthcare professionals show up to work, they are scheduled to work for around eight hours. However, they often find themselves working 16-hour days if another employee fails to show up, some going through excessively long work weeks. Despite meetings between the FIQ-SPSCE and CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS management since April, the situation has not improved. See full story in the Friday, July 19 edition of The Record.
