Heat warning in effect

Environment Canada issued a Heat warning on Thursday afternoon that covers much of the Eastern Townships. According to the warning, a warm and very humid air mass will move into Southern Quebec on Friday and remain through Saturday, producing humidex values that will reach 40 to 45 degrees.
In such intense heat, it is recommended that individuals take the time to check up on loved ones, neighbours, children and family members, especially those who suffer from a loss of autonomy, from a chronic disease or those who live alone, in order to ensure they are cool and not dehydrated. Environment Canada cautions that the risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. People are encouraged to drink plenty of water, even before feeling thristy, and stay in cool places as much as possible. While it is always important to never leave children or pets inside of a parked vehicle, this is especially important during a heatwave. Published in the Friday, July 19 edition of The Record.
