Honouring Hong Kong vets from Bury to Smiths Falls, Ont

By Matthew McCully – This past summer, members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #48 and local supporters gathered at the Bury Armoury Community Centre on Saturday afternoon to mark the 85th anniversary of the local branch. During the ceremony, a special plaque was unveiled commemorating the local men who fought in the battle of Hong Kong during World War II. This past weekend a special ceremony was held dedicating the Hong Kong commemorative plaque at Legion Branch 95 in Smiths Falls, Ontario. The unveiling of the plaque in Bury was done by husband and wife Legion members, Larry Everett and Debbie Batley-Everett, both of whose fathers fought in the battle of Hong Kong.
