Hospital Covid numbers continue gradual decline

The Province of Quebec reported 1,901 people in hospital with COVID-19 on Tuesday, a decrease of nine compared to Monday’s update. Of that total, 66 were in intensive care, the same number as on Monday. The percentage of the overall total that were hospitalized because of the virus remained unchanged at 42 per cent, but the percentage regarding ICU patience dropped to 54 per cent.

The number of health care workers absent for COVID-related reasons increased slightly, to 6,463, and the province recorded another 35 new deaths linked to the virus, for a total of 15,178 since the start of the pandemic.

In the Eastern Townships, the number of hospitalizations for people with Covid decreased by three, to 143. Three of those people were in intensive care.

The region recorded eight new deaths on Tuesday, for a total of 608 since the start of the pandemic.

Quebec reported 12,740 additional doses of vaccine administered as of Tuesday, for a cumulative total of 20,003,200 doses received by Quebecers since the shots first became available. At this point 54 per cent of eligible Quebecers have received a third dose of a vaccine and 11 per cent have received a fourth. In both cases, the highest level of coverage is among those 60 years old and older, with engagement falling off among younger age categories.
