Hospital numbers leveling out after a month of increases

Quebec showed signs of rounding the top of the sixth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Monday’s report from the Ministry of Health and Social Services. As of Monday morning there were 2,362 people in hospital with Covid across the province, down 48 from where things were at the end of last week. The number of people in intensive care with the virus also declined slightly, to 86. The number of people in hospital because of the virus followed the same trend, dropping to 954, but the proportion of people in ICU because of Covid increased, going from 57 on Friday to 62.

The number of health care workers absent for COVID-related reasons also continued to decrease, dropping below 10,000 to 9,362

The province reported eight new covid-related deaths, for a total of 14,874 since the start of the pandemic.

In the Eastern Townships, the number of people in hospital with COVID-19 was up slightly, at 162 with five in intensive care, although the total climbed as high as 168 over the weekend.

There were five new Covid-related deaths in the region between Thursday and Monday, bringing the local total to 580.
