Hospital workers gathered outside the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Sherbrooke on Wednesday for a moment of silence at 11:11 a.m. to mark the annual day of mourning for workers killed or injured on the job. The workers who gathered outdoors were all category two workers represented by the Canadian union of public employees (SCFP in Quebec), but according to union representative Éric Bergeron, the moment of silence was encouraged by the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS as a whole.
“Notes were sent to the managers of every department,” Bergeron said, noting that this was the first time that the institution took an active role in the annual day of commemoration.
