Hospitals post smallest increase since December 16

There were 3,425 people in Hospital with COVID-19 in Quebec on Wednesday, an increase of only eight compared to the previous day. Although this increase was as a result of 359 people being admitted to hospital alongside 351 discharged, the update marked the first time that the overall number of hospitalizations increased by a single-digit figure since December 16. With 46 people discharged from Intensive Care and only 42 new admissions, meanwhile, the total number of ICU patients in the province decreased slightly, to 285.

There were also 88 new deaths recorded across the province.

There were 163 people in hospital for COVID in the Eastern Townships as of Wednesday, 20 of whom were in intensive care. Both of these figures represented slight decreases compared to Tuesday.

There were also 11 new deaths reported in the Townships.

First-dose vaccination of 5-11-year-olds in the region has reached 56.8 per cent, slightly behind the provincial average of 60 per cent. The first of the children in that age group to receive the COVID-19 vaccine will begin receiving their second doses this week.
