How things stand in local ridings at the start of the 2022 election

It was hard to miss the start of the provincial election campaign over the weekend, with the sudden appearance of colourful election signs across the territory, but knowing there’s an election on isn’t the same as knowing who’s running and where.
There are six main provincial electoral ridings that cover the majority of the territory served by The Record; Brome Missisquoi, Mégantic, Saint-Francois, Sherbrooke, Orford, and Richmond. The riding of Granby (made up of the city of Granby) and parts of the Johnson riding also technically fall within the Eastern Townships.
Within each of those ridings, all of the major parties have been in the process of declaring the candidates they intend to put on the ballot in October. While a large number of political parties are registered in the province , only five have held at least one seat in the National Assembly in the most recent legislature.
