By Emilie Hackett, Special to the Record – Mental Health Estrie (MHE) has launched its annual ‘Walk in my Shoes: HUGS for the Homeless’ campaign, happening up until March. HUGS stands for Hats, Underwear, Gloves (and mittens), and Socks and scarves. ‘HUGS for the Homeless’ started off in 2007, when MHE’s board of directors decided to donate socks to a local shelter instead of organizing a gift exchange for Christmas. 11 years later, HUGS has exponentially grown. Every year, MHE campaigns on the behalf of Accueil Poirier to receive new clothing items and toiletries for the homeless population of Sherbrooke. Accueil Poirier is a homeless shelter on Galt West Street. See full story in the Friday, Nov. 16 edition of The Record.
