In a letter to the Record earlier this week, Lennoxville resident Ralph Rourke questioned why it is that the city of Sherbrooke is still allowing bow hunting and the use of traps and snares in the wooded area between his community and the Ascot neighbourhood. Faced with increasing development in the area and a dramatic increase in the number of people walking in the woods over the last year, Rourke argued that it would be much more sensible for the city to simply ban hunting in the area.
“I’ve been using the trails for many, many years and I’ve never seen so many people,” he said, noting that with the increase in popularity has come a level of care and maintenance that never used to exist, but also an increased risk if anyone stumbles across a hidden trap or snare.
