International Women’s Day: More work to be done for women’s rights

The TBL Community Centre served as the stage for the tenth annual International Women’s Day Dinner Saturday, hosted by the Yamaska Valley Optimist Club (YVO) with the trademark pink balloons adorning the white linen-clad tables and a few fabulous flower arrangements. Keynote speaker Manal Bedwany, Canada’s director of Coptic Orphans, and four local women being honoured for their contribution to community, portrayed similar goals in their efforts to set a kinder capable population. Sharp contrasts in rights and opportunities for girls and women living here and those countries where repressive cultures dominate were made glaringly evident.
